The Tears of Isha's campaign : Act III

As the lockdown was getting "softer" in France we decided with Patatovitch (the famous scribe of Taran and the Verra Rubicon) to continue our narrative campaign : Tears of Isha.

The third act is clearly inspired by the famous Battle of the Thermopyles that inspired the so-called movie "300" : the dark elves are launching a flanking attack and their are holding the Eagle Pass.

The high elves are outnumbered and doomed but if the dark elves take too much time to slain them, the hight elves will start the final battle (next battle, final act) with many advantages (first turn, one free firing phase...)

The players are allowed to use reinforcements but it will be subtracted for the final battle. Patatovitch decided to use 500 pts of reinforcement, leading his army to 1500 pts, and I decided to keep my reinforcements of the next battle, so I had "only" 2000 pts.

The high elves have walls (roll on 6 to hit) and have the first turn. In the narrative campaign, this assault is led by the Temple of Khaine (Slaanesh for me) so it involves witch elves and cauldron of blood :)

As I was expecting many bowmen I decided to use a big pack (12 ! ) of cold one knights. Their have a 2+ save, many attacks, they cause fear and they are FAST. I also had 2 pack of 6 dark riders and a big pack of 24 witches.

The deployment

The brave defenders...

My infamous hordes....

First turn:

The high elves concentrated their shots on dark riders but as they are skirmishers, they were hard to hit. Ballistas were not in the right position to hit the cold one knights and missed their shots.

The dark elves started to move as fast as they can, firing on ballistas, then dark riders charged one war machine and killed its servants (dark riders have a free movement which allow them to be very close very fast).

the charge of the dark riders !!!

Turn 2:

High elves didn't make any significant shot so the dark eves continued their irresistible advance. The cold one succeeded to charge the first regiment to lancers. Unfortunately for the hight elves, their fail their leadership test facing the cold ones with fear in their eyes.

Die weaklings !!!!

The lancers hold their position but the cold ones started to flank them as they have won the fight. More than everything, they crossed the walls and barricades, allowing them to hit the Asurs freely.

Turn 3:

Witches charged, and the cold one knights slaughtered their foes.
Unfortunately for the daughters of Slaanesh, they missed all their attacks and many of them were killed by the infamous high elves. However, helped by their hatred for their cousins, they hold their position (LD 10 with no modifiers), allowing them to wait for the backup of the cold ones.

Scream for mercy Asurs !!

Turn 4:

Unsurprisingly, the cold ones knights flanked the elves and massacred them.

the last corner

Turn 5:
The dark riders were hunting the last archers and all the Asurs were killed or made prisoners.
Anyway, they stand for 5 turns giving them the opportunity the have the first turn in the next battle, which will be 3500 pts for me and only 3000 pts for him as he used reinforcements at this battle.

Next battle soon !!!

Black Guards of Slaanesh

The Dark Elves were my first army when I started Warhammer, 25 years ago. I was 13 years old, I already loved this army but I was very frustrated: they had absolutely no models compare to other armies.... and the one available were very expensive... or at least, very expensive for me at 13/15 years old.

Expensive indeed, for instance, the Black Guards were sold per 2 for 50 francs (8 euros), then they have been reduced at 1 per blister...

Now I can afford them, I have a full unit of 21 of them !! I have even found the time to paint them :)

They will be the personal guard of my general when she will be on foot, or simply the honor guard of one Slaaneshi Sorceress.

Some details...

I wanted them to fit in the color scheme of my army, but also to look more rich and charismatic... what to you think ?
